Malaysian Food at Champor Champor

Of all the ethnic restaurants in London the ones I liked the most were either Indonesian or Malaysian. So when a friend asked me to come out for Malaysian food at Champor Champor, I did not have to think long.

Asian Food at Uli

Of all the ethnic restaurants here in London, I seem to most often end up at Asian places. This week I celebrated a friend's birthday with some Malaysian food at Uli in Notting Hill.

The restaurant's owners resurrected this popular eatery in Notting Hill recently after high rents on the All Saints Road forced them to close it down three years ago. And I can see why Notting Hillers were delighted to find their much loved local Asian restaurant reinstated.

Thai Food at the Blue Elephant

Last week I kicked off my weekend with some Thai food at the Blue Elephant.

Now this restaurant is one bridge too far from my house as it sits just across the river in Fulham. I really love its authentic decor and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it feels like you are in Thailand when you walk through their door. Till you look outside and see the Thames Clipper whizz by. But hey, dining with a view of London by the Thames might not sound as exotic as Thailand, but it's nice nonetheless.

We started off with some wine and veggie spring rolls and a spicy dip. I don't know what it is with Thai places, but of all cuisines in the world, I think Thai dishes are the prettiest. The springrolls tasted lovely as well, although I still don't know why they always come in uneven numbers, even when you're dining in an even numbered party.

Thai Food at the Begging Bowl

There are quite a few ethnic food places I wanted to go to for my 'Eating Around the World Without Leaving London' tour, and Thai Food at the Begging Bowl was one that I missed out on. I keep reading about this place, so yesterday I went to check it out.

The Begging Bowl is located in the posh bit of Peckham Rye which some say will soon be the spill over of Brixton. Apparently it is run and owned by a lady who travelled around SouthEast Asia for a while and was inspired by the streetfood dishes she had on her trip.

Lao Food at Thai and Lao

I'm eating around the world without leaving London and this week I headed to Shoreditch Boxpark for Lao food at Thai and Lao.

I wasn't sure whether to enter this one into my RTW foodie series as the menu didn't seem authentically Lao; it sounded more like an Asian eatery that caters to Western palates. Also I went there on a Monday night after work as the website said they were open till 8pm, only to find the cleaning crew inside and a sign that said: Solly, We closed.

Thai Food at Rosa's Thai Cafe

I'm eating around the world without leaving London and this week I had Thai food at Rosa's Thai Cafe in Soho. When it comes to eating Thai food in the capital, we are truly spoilt for chose. So much so, that I wasn’t sure where to go for this one. I ended up picking Rosa’s as I had been there before and liked its food and low-key atmosphere and its super central location on Soho’s Dean Street.

I’d booked a table for five as I was dragging my colleagues to come and eat with me. The place was already buzzing when we got there, and subsequently our table was in the basement which filled up quickly as soon as we sat down as well.
