When it comes to dumplings, the Japanese gyoza is my absolute favourite. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard there was a gyoza bar opening in Covent Garden.
Gyoza Bar (yes, that's really what it's called) sort of sits within Murakami, another Japanese restaurant. Which causes some light confusion when you think you're opening a door to the loo but in fact you're almost bumping into someone else's romantic dinner.
The decor is very cosy with wooden slats in the wall and wooden tables and stools. The latter being slightly uncomfortable so don't expect an evening filling dinner here.
The food is delicious and everything you would want from a gyoza. They come deep fried, pan fried or steamed and you can choose from various fillings like chicken, pork, shrimp, etc. Veggies are welcome here too as there are some non meat options as well.
We'd ordered pan fried chicken gyoza, deep fried gyozas which were wrapped in lettuce leaves, sweet potato fries and one pulled pork bun with peanut sprinkled on top. And, yes they do some other Japanese dishes as well if you're all gyozad-out.
We washed it all down with refreshing Japanese beer before we were chucked out. Which was only because we hadn't bothered to make a reservation and the staff was so kind to squeeze us in for an hour and a bit. I loved it and will be back for more.
The food looks really good. It really annoys me when i tell people i like japanese food and there like 'but you don't like sushi?' I can enjoy Japanese food and dislike sushi, Japanese food is so much more than just sushi, which is proven here x
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I don't like Japanese curry but there is so much more to Japanese food than sushi and curry.
ReplyDeleteYummy this looks delicious. I had dumplings for the first time last week, a friend of mine had some friends that took us to japanese restaurants it was both amazing and frightening at the same time haha x
