There just aren't enough rooftop bars and/or restaurants in London, so whenever I hear of a new one opening up shop, they already get a big thumbs up from me. Last week I went to check out the Vintage Salt at Selfridges.
It's not easy to find, but when you make a reservation you get a detailed description of how to get to the roof. When you get there, it does feel quite airy. The roof is retractable so your summer meal won't turn into a wash-out, although someone decided to close it when we were there and there wasn't a grey cloud in sight.
The restaurant is supposed to make you feel like you're at the Cornish seaside, so the theme here is beachy. Not just the decor (think lots of ropes and fishing rods), but also the food is supposed to make you feel like you're at London by the sea.
I went with a group of friends which meant we got a little bit more time to eat as Vintage Salt is one of those restaurants that will turf you out if you don't eat fast enough.
We only had mains just for that reason. I went with the hamburger with a big slab of melted goat's cheese on top of it, which made it a very juicy affair.
Two of my friends went with the grilled spring chicken with spicy cole slaw. It looked very pretty and apparently was very nice.
Another friend had the smoked haddock and my other two friends had the biggest fish and chips I'd ever seen. They looked pretty chuffed with their choice.
One friend had the seabass which was sprinkled with clams and came with some veggies. No complaints from her either.
We finished with some teas and coffees, before we were off to check out the outside bar. If it hadn't cooled off so much we would've stayed here for some after dinner drinks, but since there was no retractable roof here, we made our way down to the ground floor of Selfridges and headed to a cosy pub. Shame about those timed sessions otherwise we would've stayed for desserts too.
Mmmm that food looks amazing! I love eating out :)

It was. I believe they're opening up another one in the city somewhere. Really worth the trip.
