What could be better than a girlie weekend at the coast in Bournemouth? A girlie weekend at the coast at the Chocolate Boutique Hotel in Bournemouth. Yes, that's right, last weekend my friend and I stayed at a hotel where chocolate was omnipresent.
We checked in late afternoon at the hotel's reception where we dipped some marshmallows in the chocolate fountain at the reception desk. There was also a massive, chocolate button filled cocktail glass. that was just too irresistible.
The hotel's decor is brown, obviously. But in a good way; the chocolate way. Brown carpet on the floor, brown wallpaper on the walls and pictures of chocolate or chocolate related things.
The rooms all have chocolatey names like chocolate orange, truffle suite and Theobroma. Our room was called the Aztec, who apparently used cocoa seeds as a form of currency.
Our room was chocolatey brown, of course, and there was a small bowl of white, milk and dark chocolates and a large plaque of hotel branded milk chocolate waiting for us. The hotel also offers chocolate hampers in several shapes and sizes, but since there was so much complimentary chocolate scattered around the place, we didn't order one.
The hotel bar serves chocolate flavoured cocktails, but by night fall we had a pretty good chocolate rush going that we gave that one a miss.
In the morning, breakfast was served in the basement breakfast room and there was a good choice of eggy cooked breakfasts on the menu, but I felt I couldn't leave this place without having the chocolate pancakes. They were worth it.
For the die-hard chocolate lovers, the hotel puts on chocolate making workshops and other chocolate sleepovers and chocolate weekends. Great for hen parties or girlie getaways.
We loved staying here, but be prepared for a chocolate overdose when you do.
