I'm trying to eat around the world without leaving London and this week I had Greek food at Lemonia in Primrose Hill. I'd heard that they serve the best Greek food to be had in London, so it had to be this one for the London Eats World series.
On the downside, being the best Greek restaurant in London also means that Lemonia is always packed, especially on a weekend. Booking a table is wise if you don't want to watch people getting served delicious food while your stomach is empty and growling.
The jokey waiter showed us to our table, handed us the menu and took our wine order. Everything seemed delicious on the menu and after changing our minds about a hundred times, but finally my friend and I both went for the papoutsakia. It's aubergine stuffed with mince and pine nuts, topped with a bechamel sauce. I'm not a huge fan of bechamel and I could have done with slightly less of it, but on the other hand, I'm a a huuuuge fan of aubergines so that balanced out the creamyness.
Even though we both felt as stuffed as two turkeys on Christmas day, the jokey waiter managed to twist our arms to order dessert. We shared a portion of warm apple pie accompanied with vanilla ice cream and a raspberry on top. It's hard to meet the apple pie expectations of a Dutch person, but this one wasn't bad.
I loved the food at Lemonia, and judging by the rest of the dishes that were featured on their menu, I have a very good reason to go back.
Lemonia is in Primrose Hill and you can find more information on their website.
Ohh that does look like a lot of sauce. There's also a really good Greek restaurant by Clapham North station. Can't remember what it's called tho.
ReplyDeleteIt was layered on it pretty thickly. A bit too much...
