The Guggenheim in Bilbao is probably the most eye-catching sight in the city. Its gleaming exterior is hard to miss when you drive down the bridge into the city. The inside isn't any less impressive.
The museum designed by Frank Gehry has an odd shape which I thought resemebled the body of one of those Picasso women. The inside is like a body as well, as the lady on the audio tour explained. She explained that the atrium was like a heart, pumping the visitors around through the walkways, corridors and on staircases to the different galleries in the museum.
There are quite a few permanent as well as temporary exhibitions. When we were there there was an exhibition on art during the Second World War. I loved the collection of Picasso paintings with more of those oddly shaped women of course.

My favourite was the piece called Matter of Time by Richard Serra. It consists of a bunch of steel plate that are curved around the massive gallery room like a maze. Kids will love it, but so did we.Unfortunately we couldn't spend more time in the museum as we had to hurry to catch a bus to San Sebastian. But our visit sure tasted like more.
It sure was, Freya. If you ever get the chance, you should go there.
