German Food at German Gymnasium

German Food at German Gymnasium

Since I decided to hit the gym more often this here new year, my friend and I headed for the German gymnasium last Monday. Not for a sesh of spinning but for a boozy brunch. Although I was spinning on my way home in the tube later.

The German gymnasium is a fairly new restaurant and bar in kings cross and is housed in a building that actually once was a gym. Not sure what the Germans had to do with h it though. We were meant to go somewhere else which decided to close without telling us, so we ended up at the German gymnasium without a reservation. We managed to perch up on the corner of the bar where we treated ourselves to some delightful cocktails.

The weather outside was frightful, but the food inside delightful. And stodgy. I went for a German cheesy sausage and truffle mash with sauerkraut. A creative take on the rustic Germanic dish. My friend went for the curry wurst with potatoes and a massive glob of curry sauce.

It turned out to be a dragged out brunch with more cocktails and even a bottle of Sekt so peckishness eventually kicked in again. Time for dessert. Rebecca opted for the classic apple strudel and vanilla custard cream and I had the extremely chocolate pot which hit the spot.

We had a great time with great food and even greater cocktails. I wish all gym classes could be more like that.
