Hurricane Hotel in Tarifa

Last week I headed to Spain again to see my parents who live near Malaga and they took me on a weekend trip to the Hurricane Hotel in Tarifa.

Hurricane Hotel lies a bit out of town, but it’s only a 5 minute drive, so you’re never far from the excitement of town. It’s cradled by lovely pine woodlands and the beach is directly accessible from the hotel’s premises.

I love this place, for its colonial feel and atmosphere and its combination of Moroccan and Andalusian décor. It has a real chilled out and homey feel to it and there are even a couple of hotel cats roaming around the premises.

The rooms are accessible from a communal porch, which is lovely for a cool evening drink. We had front facing rooms, but there are some rooms that face the pool area as well.

After we’d checked in and checked out our rooms, we headed to the chiringuito near the pool for some food. A chiringuito is supposed to be a beach-side snack bar, but this one is more poolside and only meant for the hotel’s guests to eat at. They offer a lot of different favourites like burgers and local dishes, but I fell for the salad bar option.

After lunch we took a long walk on the beach, which is popular among wind and kite surfers and judging by the strength of the wind during our walk, we could certainly see why.

The hotel offers dinner in the dining room, but we went into town for our evening meal. We did however, hang about the cosy TV area as we had no televisions in our rooms. Breakfast we did have at the hotel and it’s a lavish affair. Muesli, eggs, croissants and fresh breads; you name it, it’s there.

We had a lovely stay at Hurricane Hotel in Tarifa, and I am sure we will be back again next time we go to Tarifa.
